TURN DOWN FOR WHAT!

We always go big when it comes to our end of year celebrations; everything from murder mystery nights to being flown down to the beach.

This year we wanted to take our royalty to another level. Our blue blood traveled back in time to a world full of magic and adventure, sands that stretch as far as the eye can see and a sky full of stars. It was Monarchy’s ARABIAN NIGHT.

This meant dressing up like we hang out with Aladdin, riding camels and lots of belly dancing! And no one disappointed. We still ruled as Kings and Queens in our magical celebration.

We had the most amazing fun, eating the most amazing food and partying with the most amazing people.

What a way to end the year! Thanks to the monarchy family for making every moment a blast (even at 3 in the morning!)

And from the Monarchy Team, a special thank you to Joanne, Nicci and Delarey for organizing the best night of this year so far!

PromaxBDA Africa!

We had tons of fun at this year’s PromaxBDA Africa Awards. Not only did we manage to grab up some awards, we also had the privilege of creating this year’s look and feel!

The theme for this year was EVOLUTION. We grouped together and came up with a concept that we felt expressed how the creative process evolves; from a flood of inspiration and ideas into one focused final product.

Evolution is often seen as a very lengthy and time consuming event, but we took a different approach. We wanted a modern interpretation of what it means to evolve, one that was fast, packed with energy and extremely passionate.

Living in a digital world, highly influenced by the internet, we were able to compact hundreds of different styles of design and animation into one package.

A big shout out to Derrick Pitts for all the hard work he put into this project.

Although working on this project was fun, we also had a blast at the event, with 3 more awards under our belt, all for our Crime & Investigation worldwide rebrand. Check out the blog post we did  while back on this project here.

The awards:

Channel Brand of the Year – C&I – GOLD

Best On Air Branding Design – C&I Rebrand _ GOLD

Best On Air Branding Design – C&I – Ident Cult – SILVER

Well done to all the winners! We’re too excited for next year.

We couldn’t be more psyched!

We’re Psyched! And not just the regular kind of psyched, we’re super psyched!

Why? Well, our very own Nicci Hattingh has been featured in the latest edition of Destiny Magazine.

We always knew she had super powers, but who knew she would be chosen as one of forty most influential and powerful women in South Africa!

The article features women from across South Africa who are both inspiring and changing the environment they work in. Make sure you get a copy of the magazine today.

A big well done to Nicci and all her hard work that got her to where she is today. We’re so proud of everything you’ve done.

We love you!

Speed, adrenaline, torque, action…these elements were all present as the team had fun behind the wheel.

From class to office

Once again, we had interns on the Monarchy royal ground. Anna van Vreden and Jessica-Lee Bothma were both interning as designers, while Aletia Fourie was interning as a 2D/3D Animator.

It’s always refreshing working with bright young minds who are eager to prove themselves while also being mentored. Being an intern is an eye opener, that is, it’s the first step to progressing in one’s career. As a student, you have to be enthusiastic about your studies. After you complete your studies you now have to face the real world, the brave-new world.

These aspiring interns did some really awesome work for Monarchy while working with us. Even though it was only for a couple of weeks, we trust that they learned much within that short space of time. We are very proud to have been visited by these young and vibrant talented prospects. Godspeed on your journey of life interns.

Promax Global Excellence Awards 2014

promaxglobal2

We are proud to announce that Monarchy has won two awards at the Promax Global Excellence Awards 2014. Yay!
The awards ceremony was hosted in New York in the United States where our intuitive company director and co-owner Delarey Hattingh, accompanied by our awesome creative director Shannon Davis were there to personally receive these awards.

Specifically the awards we won are…*drum roll*…Gold for Art Direction & Design: Channel ID, and Gold for Art Direction & Design: Program informational Graphics.
Both awards were for the incredible project we did for A&E Networks for the global rebrand of the CI (formally The Crime and Investigation Network) network.
Also, our incredible clients at A&E won silver for the rebrand.

We appreciate this recognition and acknowledgement by ProMax and we promise to bring you nothing but greatness like we’ve been doing all along.
None of this would have been possible without our AWESOME creative team. Well done to Monarchians!

You can visit www.promaxbda.org to read up further on the awards.

TUKS Visit

Monarchy recently hosted a visit of 50 young and sprightly students from the University of Pretoria, famously known as TUKS, or UP.

Delarey, Monarchy’s Director and co-owner; Shannon, our Creative Director; and Gavin, our Head of Animation led the morning’s informal presentation. The guys took the students through some of the work Monarchy has done, who we are as a company and our work process, from brief to delivery. Design, video editing, sound effects, animation and everything in between, the presentation served to motivate the students and show them how and what they would be working on once their studies were complete.

We hope you guys enjoyed the morning and learnt a few things, and maybe we see one or two of your faces come join the team at Monarchy in the not-so-distant future!

Crime and Investigation Global Rebrand

We just wanted to let you know of just another exciting project that Monarchy has just finished.

A+E Network’s Crime and Investigation Global Rebrand 2014 / Monarchy

Launching in South Africa on the 5th of March 2014, local viewers will also get to see the International rebrand done by award winning agency, Monarchy. With a strong new logo packing a solid punch of attitude and character, boldness is personified, passion reinvented and boundaries extended with a cinematic view on crime as never seen before.
Crime and Investigation (channel 170 on DSTV in South Africa), is the first global channel that has been dedicated to true crime stories. This global success story, which is now in 102 countries, 50+ million homes and has been a factual leader for 7 years, is also still one of the stickiest pay TV channels available. All these countries (including Italy, UK, Poland, America, Asian markets and Australia) are now carrying the new look and it will continue to grow and evolve with new idents done as and when needed.

New York based A+E Networks approached Monarchy to evolve Crime and Investigation’s much loved global identity. This was needed in an environment where there is intense competition that challenges the growth of the network and they needed to be set apart both in terms of their programming and their brand. After beating numerous international companies, we jumped at the opportunity to work with the amazing global CI team, where the brutality of the criminal, the despair of the victim and the cunning of the authorities was brought out in the new evolved look of Crime and Investigation.

With the move to encompass a broadening genre that will include paranormal, mystery and conspiracy, medical investigation and current, topical events like scandals and local issues the brand grew into what it is today. With a great client that encouraged original ideas, the evolution of the brand was based on a concept we donned “Converged Timelines”, that would bring the criminal, victim and law enforcement into the same scene, that usually don’t exist in the same time or space. Why? Because only on Crime and Investigation do you get to be this close to a crime scene and look through all the perspectives.

The treatment was based predominantly on live-action footage and cinematic macro photography that established the reality of the crimes that is on the channel, but was complimented with re-designed logos and an information language, which redefined the look on air. Viewers will see the incredible 3D logos and animated on-air design that gives a new exciting and adventurous high-end feel to the channel.
The finished re-brand launched in South Africa on the 5th of March with an intellectual and sophisticated look that translates on-air and on-line over 5 different continents, numerous languages and countless cultures.
